When people hear the word Mallorca, lively Magaluf and Palma springs to mind with teenagers going wild on their first holiday without their parents, but there is so much more to the island that nightlife and non-stop partying. Mallorca is home to stunning picturesque beaches with crystal clear waters and soaring cliffs combined with lush mountains, creating the perfect holiday hotspot for all travellers.

Palma de Mallorca, the island’s capital has in fact an Arab quarter, of which adds an incredible sense of heritage and style of architecture to the city. Le Seu, the town’s cathedral is the first stop for many, with its Gothic style and unfinished works by Gaudi. The cathedral completely dominates the area as its spire can be seen from almost anywhere in Palma. Alongside its fascinating historical element, Palma is also buzzing with bars, inventive restaurants, art galleries and shops.

Once you are relaxing on the picturesque beach, if the lack of hordes of tourists that you will find in other parts of the island finally takes its toll, you could then go by boat to the nearby island of Cabrera, an inhabited national park filled with wildlife.

Whilst many tend to search for hidden and secluded beaches or alternative activities away from the crowds, some adventures are still an absolute must do. One such example is a trip on the antique wooden train from Palma to Soller, taking you though the gorgeous olive groves and soaring mountains, all the way to the charming port of Soller.

For those looking for more of an activity holiday, Mallorca is the ideal choice. With incredible mountain biking and cycling trails, including the World Heritage Site of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, often used by world-class cyclists for training before any major tournaments. As a reward to yourself for all of your hard work cycling, why not treat yourself to visit one of the many traditional wineries on the island.

One of Mallorca’s main attractions though has to be its climate, allowing it to be an all-year round tourist destination. From the almonds trees blossoming in February, the perfect mountain biking or golfing conditions during the spring and autumn or even the intense sunshine throughout the summer, Mallorca truly is the idyllic place for lounging on a beach.

Here we have some top tips to help you make the most of your holiday to Mallorca:

  1. 1. You will find it cheaper to enjoy drinks or tapas whilst sitting at the bar as opposed to sitting at the table.

  1. 2. Locals usually have their dinner between 9pm – 10pm and although in resorts you can have dinner at any time, if you wish to dine out, the restaurants may be quieter until these times

  1. 3. As a general guide, locals will usually tip between 5-10% on the total bill. If it happens to be a more upmarket restaurant, then international standards should always be applied.
